LOOK: Ilocos Sur archdiocese appeals to stop killings

VIGAN CITY – All churches under the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia in Ilocos Sur have placed tarpaulins calling for a stop to the killings of drug suspects in the country.

Among the messages on the tarpaulins are “Dika Mamapatay” (Do not kill), “Respetaren ti Biag” (Respect Life) and “No to Illegal Drugs”.

“What kind of values are we passing on to our next generation if we say that these are normal? These incidents are not normal. This is a form of silent protest na ang mga nangyayari ay hindi na tama," Archbishop Marlo Peralta said.

"Kawawa itong mga napapatay, how about their families? Walang susuporta sa kanila. Para sa amin sa simbahan, rehab hindi rubout,” Peralta said.

The archdiocese will also include in all its Masses a prayer for the victims of the killings, their family, and the government.

A total of 39 drug suspects have been killed in Ilocos Sur since the government implemented its bloody war against illegal drugs in July.
